RAM Trucks: When You Need a Bigger Ute!

If you're going to need a bigger ute, then why not make it one of the biggest available? RAM Trucks offer a range of the biggest 4X4s on the market and could be worth considering. The truck reference comes from the company's US connection and the American terminology 'pick-up truck' for what Australians refer to as 'utes'. Built to take on really heavy duty jobs and tough environments, RAM Trucks are a force to be reckoned with.

If you’ve never seen a RAM truck in person, it is quite an experience. These vehicles have a physical presence that simply can’t be ignored. Definitely a ‘stand out from the crowd’ ute. RAM Trucks is a US manufacturer, part of the massive Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group, and the vehicles do arrive in Australia with left-hand drive. However, the company has been selling into the Australian market for several years and maintains a facility in Melbourne where each vehicle is essentially re-manufactured for right hand drive purposes.

The body and the chassis are separated to allow a re-engineered right hand drive steering system to be fitted. This is followed by the installation of a new dash. The dashboards are produced in Australia, designed and developed for Australian conditions and standards. After the dash and heating and ventilation systems have been installed, the chassis and the body are re-married. The company emphasises the substantial nature and engineering excellence involved in this work and it is far more than a simple LHD-RHD conversion.

To dispel any concerns you may have about finance for US-imported and converted vehicles, Jade Car Loans provides our full portfolio of finance products for buyers of RAM Trucks. With our cheap interest rate loans and the investment allowance measures currently on offer, why not get yourself a RAM Truck?

RAM Trucks: Range

There are currently four RAM models available in the 1500 class with a 2500 heavy duty model under wraps and tagged ‘register interest’. The special edition Warlock is also on the books for some dealers.

In the 1500 category, the two ranges include the Express and the Laramie with two variants within each. These are crew cab/quad cab vehicles with either V8 Hemi or V6 power. Promoted as full sized trucks, these vehicles offer a realistic solution for operators that need or want more tow capacity, more load capacity and more performance from their workhorse.

  • RAM 1500 Express V8 Hemi Quad Cab: This could be considered the base vehicle in the line-up but as a 5.7 litre, V8 powered machine, it is far from basic when compared with most mid-sized utes and 4x4s on the market. The cargo tub is 6’4” which provides a load length of 1939mm, just a smidge under 2 metres and a width of just over 1.6 metres with 1295 mm between the wheel arches. Inside, the cab is a spacious 5 seater and well-decked with comfort and connectivity features.
  • RAM 1500 Express Crew Cab: Many of the same features as the Quad with the 5.7 litre V8 engine but with slightly shorter cargo tub at 5’7” but with the same width, being 1295 mm between wheel arches. Large enough to take a pallet.
  • RAM Laramie 1500 V8 Hemi Crew Cab: This model steps it up in luxury and premium style but with the same V8 engine and the spacious 5’7” cargo tub as the Express Crew model. The interior has leather trimmed features, and according to the manufacturer, more head, shoulder and leg room than your usual 5 seater cab. The Laramie is the top of the RAM range so you can expect those added luxury appointments.
  • RAM Laramie 1500 V6 Ecodiesel: Similar specs to the Laramie V8 but with the 3.0 litre V6 engine. This is a 5 seater crew cab and with the Laramie, has the 60:40 rear seat split for greater flexibility and versatility.

Who needs a RAM?

RAM Trucks would be suitable for a large number of business operators, in the building and construction, mining and resources, landscaping and property management, agricultural and farming sectors and those running any type of operation that requires easy access into tough terrain and through challenging locations.

If you need to tow or load gen set for jobs, possibly a small compactor or excavator, a trailer-load of landscaping equipment or building supplies, load up a full range of tools and machinery so you’ve always got the gear you need for every job then RAM may be the vehicle for you. If financing is a consideration, low doc car loans might be an option to explore.
