Holden Triumphs in Last Supercars Bathurst 1000 Race

The final appearance of the General at the iconic Supercars Bathurst 1000  was filled with emotion, memories and excitement. While the weather made a valiant attempt to wash out the entire event, Holden was not to be denied it’s final chequered flag on this famous moto racing circuit. The circuit which had seen legendary drivers battle it out against all-comers and maintain an amazing rivalry with the blue oval, Ford, over decades.

The 2022 event was the final occasion that the Holden brand would compete in Supercars at the famous Mount Panorama track. Supercars are moving to a new race car set-up in 2023 which meant the Holden Commodore bows out.

The race was one for the ages as many of the commentators noted. The weather, as it often does on Mount Panorama, played a critical part. The Top 10 shootout was cancelled on the Saturday and even as early as the Sunday morning, there was possibly some doubt that the race itself would proceed.

But it did and the first corner delivered the first incident and heartbreak for some drivers. The safety car would make eight appearances throughout the gruelling hours. But the weather improved and the final sessions were raced under clear conditions.

With the safety car brought out in the final few laps, spectators were treated to an amazing final session of hot laps and some of the closest nose to tail, heart-stopping motor racing. The result for Holden was historic and memorable, with the top two spots on the podium taken by the Commodore.

Shane Van Gisbergen and Garth Tander took out first place for Red Bull Racing, Chaz Mostert and Fabian Coulthard in second and Cam Waters and James Moffatt spoiling a 1,2,3 for Holden by finishing third in their Ford. The win for Holden extended their lead over Ford in overall wins and gave Van Gisbergen the Supercars Drivers Championship for 2022. Holden Commodores filled 7 of the top 10 positions with Ford only managing 3.

The Holden Commodore still has a few more appearances in the top Supercars motor racing category before bowing out. The Supercars next head to the Gold Coast for races on 28-30 October before completing the 2022 calendar in Adelaide at the start of December.

Red Bull Dual Triumph

While Van Gisbergen and Tander were chalking up another Supercars win for Red Bull in Australia, the racing team was also taking out another prestigious motor racing trophy in Japan. Max Verstappen won the Japanese F1 GP for Red Bull Racing which also gave him another Drivers Championship, despite being another 4 races in the season.

A dual triumph duplicated on the same weekend – two iconic race wins and two drivers championships for this amazing motor racing team. Coincidentally, the Japan GP was also impacted by rain.

Inspired to Buy a New Car?

Watching motor racing events either at the track or on the screen, can have car owners aspiring to a better, new vehicle of their own. Possibly not an actual race car, but at least an upgrade from their current drive.

While the Bathurst-winning Holden Commodore is no longer available on the new car market, buyers may find inspiration from the best-selling monthly car figures. These are released by the FCAI each month and can provide an indication of what other buyers have already decided is a good make or model to purchase. But current figures should be considered in the context of the supply issues which continue to prevail in the new motor vehicle market.

Notable trends in the September sales results are the overall improving figures which may indicate easing in supply, the increase in EV sales especially from Tesla and Toyota once again topping the best-seller maker and model lists.

Battery EVs have shown an impressive rise in sales and are outdoing plug-ins and hybrids by a considerable margin. This may be due to the releases in August and September of new Tesla models. Prior to recent months, Tesla figures were not available for these monthly reports.

It may be worth noting that the type of new car – passenger, SUV, EV or traditional power, does not effect the finance as such. But price is recognised as a major obstacle to the take-up of EVs in Australia.

If the Supercars Bathurst 1000 inspires the purchase a new motor vehicle, buyers can prepare by securing pre-approved motor vehicle loans through Jade Car Loans. A pre-approved loan is arranged before the actual vehicle is purchased, or in some cases, even decided upon. It is a very handy way to go as it provides a firm indication of how much a buyer is approved to borrow, a confirmed quote on loan repayments and can be used to select the car to suit the finance.

Pre-approved car loans are provided across our business car loan for both private and business buyers. The business car finance rates offered for a pre-approved car loan would be the same as for finance which is applied for following the vehicle selection and ‘purchase’.

We have maintained our cheap interest rates policy amidst the current cash rate rise. The RBA has indicated more rises are in store. So buyers that are ‘feeling it’ in regard to a new car buy, would be strongly advised to get off the couch, away from the Supercars telecast and get moving on that purchase.
