- Mount Barney National Park, NSW: Lions Road from Kyogle to this National Park is reported to be a sensational rainforest drive with many selfie-worthy photo ops. This is near the NSW-Queensland border in the Great Dividing Range where you’ll find several other national parks to explore and towns to stop for accommodation and other facilities.
- Tasmania, Derwent Bridge to Strahan: Tasmania is well-known for its forests, with the west coast boasting some of the oldest on the earth. Start in Hobart and take the Lyell Highway heading to Strahan. At the Derwent Bridge, you’ll see how the vegetation starts to close in with tree ferns, and beech trees and becomes very dense. Stretch your legs on the nature trail walk and see Nelson Falls.
- Kuranda, Queensland: Cairns is a great FNQ town but it’s not the end of the road. Continue on the Kennedy Highway to enjoy the tropical rainforest en route to the market town of Kuranda. Also in the vicinity is the Skyrail cable car and the scenic railway so plenty of reasons to drive up this way.
