A new Ford Ranger, the Super Duty model, designed and developed in Australia, has been announced to celebrate 100 years of the blue oval in Australia. The announcement of this heavy-hauling and heavy-duty variant was a global debut, with the company saying it was looking to the future with this new model, which will be available in 2026.
In celebrating the company’s 100 year milestone, Ford’s Executive Chair, Mr Bill Ford, said that Australia and the blue oval had grown together, with Australia being one of the first markets that the company had established beyond its North American base.
New Ford Ranger Super Duty
The Super Duty is sure to be in demand for both recreational and work applications. Designed to meet the requirements of demanding environments, this new model may be ideal for towing boats, caravans and machinery, handling off-road tracks and trails, and transporting feed into paddocks.
This new variant in the Ranger line-up has a stronger and thicker chassis, stronger suspension, rear and front locking differentials, and heavy-duty axles. While considered by the blue oval as a ‘heavy-duty commercial grade’ vehicle, the Super Duty is also ‘consumer friendly’.
That’s the great news. The ‘not so great’ news is that this new Super Duty won’t be available for sale in Australia until next year. The specifications and model line-up will be released closer to launch date. But blue oval fans can celebrate with one of the current models in the line-up.
Ford Ranger Number One Best Seller
Around the same time that Ford was announcing a new addition to the line-up, the current Ranger was also lauded in the sales charts. The Ranger took out the coveted position of number one selling vehicle for March 2025, in sales data announced by the FCAI. Nudging the Toyota RAV4 to number two, and Hi-Lux to number three.
Rounding out the top 10 best sellers for March were Mitsubishi’s Outlander, Toyota Prado, BYD Shark 6, Ford Everest, Isuzu D-Max, MC ZS, and the Kona from Hyundai. Toyota remained the top selling brand ahead of Ford and Mazda. March also saw a run on PHEVs in a late uplift in sales before the 1 April expiry of the special FBT allowances. But sales of EVs remained low.
In announcing the data, the FCAI’s Chief Executive, Tony Weber, said that while there were 89 EVs models in the Australin market, buyers were not moving to EVs in big numbers. This at a time when the NEVS comes into effect from 1 July and as a result, some manufacturers are discontinuing petrol models to avoid fines. Buyers – get in quick!
